Book of James Series - August 10, 2014 Recap

Who is wise among you? The rich and successful person? The couple that have a long and happy marriage? The elderly person who has experienced the ups and downs of a generation? Pastor George posed this question to the church on Sunday, August 10.

Continuing on in the book of James series, Pastor George Searight II highlighted chapter 3 verses 13-18. Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. – James 3:13, KJV

James declares that those who have truly attained wisdom show it through their actions. Their good conduct and humility shine forth an inner wisdom given from God.

Pastor George correlated James’ words with Solomon’s insight on wisdom in the book of Proverbs. Solomon describes wisdom as a woman who cries out in the streets…

Wisdom is a treasure trove filled with riches far greater than any paycheck or valued asset on the planet. Pastor George stressed that if we could just get our hands on Godly wisdom, everything else would fall into place. But what exactly is Godly wisdom and how is it different than earthly wisdom?

But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. – James 3:14-18, KJV

Here are some of George’s defining characteristics of earthly wisdom and Godly wisdom:

  • Godly Wisdom
    • Produces Fruit
    • Gentle
    • Peaceable
  • Earthly Wisdom
    • Bitter, Envious
    • Sensual, Based on Emotion and what Feels Good
    • Demonic

Let’s seek after Godly wisdom and listen to wisdom’s cry. The Lord wants to release a measure of his knowledge and understanding to us all. He wants to increase our capacity to love him and his children. Let’s receive the Lord’s wisdom so that we may sow the fruit of righteousness in peace.

God Bless and see you next Sunday!
